In 1982 when my father, William Dougherty started the Company, he put everything he had into it. There were rules about how drivers were treated and what we did or did not do as compared to many of our competitors. Rule #1: We never bothered drivers in their "home" which were actually truckstops. As he would ask, "how would you like someone to come into your home and try to recruit you?" We aren't going to stalk you at a truckstop, ever. We also aren't going to buy lists of CDL holders in the area. Now if you were a previous employee, we might touch base through the mail, but we will never cold-call you. Rule #2: We don't lie to drivers. Many years ago you would go down the road and see on the back of the trailers some recruiting decal. Typically the rate/mile was REALLY HIGH. Drivers would call and quickly realize that rate/mile was actually all their pay and benefits divided out/mile. We have never done that, and never will. Your pay is your pay. Rule #3: We treat you right. Yes, some days things just need to get done. Some days we all have bad days. If you look over the course of your employment you are going to be treated like an equal, just like any office or shop employee. We all have a story and we all need a little bit of grace from time to time.
